I’ve always struggled with how to fill large walls, and I swear that how all the walls in our house are…large and empty! I have a gallery wall going in the entry, but unfortunately there can only be so many gallery walls in one house. Enlarged photographs are a great way to go, but I wanted something with a little more interest.
What’s better than cheese and crackers? A good excuse to eat them. And that, my friends, is exactly what this super cute slate cheeseboard will give you– All for under $5.

My son received a birthday card in the mail Saturday. He was so excited when I gave it to him to open. As normal, he rips it open and pulls the card from the extremely torn envelope. On the front of it was Noah’s ark and the animals. I said, “Oh, wonder who it’s from?” To which he replied in a matter of fact way, “it’s from Jesus!”
Hm, I wonder why I didn’t think of that?
Having a three-year old son is the most fun EVER! By the way, thank you Jesus for the birthday card!
“They call me the fireman. That’s my name.”
I cannot get that George Strait song out of my head! Perhaps it has something to do with my son being into fire truck stuff since Halloween! He turned three this weekend and of course, we had his birthday party at the local volunteer fire department. He was in Heaven to say the least! But how long do these phases last? Shouldn’t he be over the fireman fantasies and on to super hero ones by now? I’m going to have a tough time topping the fire station birthday party. Next step would be to let him put a real fire out. Not going to happen! LOL
All the kids, a total of four, were in awe when the local firefighter allowed them to actually get in one of the firetrucks. He started it up and turned the sirens on, explaining all the different buttons and what they do. Cheers to my local volunteer fire department for making my son’s third birthday so very memorable. In addition, the fire department does this on a donation basis only. I feel lucky to be a part of such a small, generous, personable community.
Now, on to the next fire!
Well, not a real fire! It’s only make believe. LOL. Yes, my son is a fireman, thanks to Santa, aka, Mamaw. He woke up (well, his Uncle woke him up) on Christmas morning to find me, Mamaw, Granny, and his uncle all eagerly waiting for him to look for his gifts from Santa. It was impossible not to spot the big red (motorized) firetruck sitting next to the Christmas tree! Simply precious!!! I love sharing Christmas with my son at this age….it is pure magic! In fact, I asked him how he thought Santa got that firetruck down the chimney. He said, “it’s magic, Mom!”
My son is beginning to take interest in his medical kit. He calls himself, “Doctor Man Bates.” A few days ago, with his stethoscope around his neck, he approached me. He asked, “So, how was your day? Were you busy?” At which I replied, “Yes, I was pretty busy today.” He went on to say, “I’ve worried all day, you never called.” “Well,” I said, “I called your mamaw.” To which he replied, “but you didn’t call me.”
AMAZING! I now call HIM, not mamaw.
I love sweets and I love late night snacks. Yet, nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels, right? What is the solution? Can I really have my Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup and eat it too? Yes, I can!
Solution:
Tastes so close to actually eating a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, it is amazing. I’m in love and this is my little bit of sunshine today!
“Jesus is coming,” I surprisingly hear my two-year old say. “Uh?”, I question. “In the sky,” he continues. “In a plane, wearing a space helmet and space jacket.”
Can you imagine how strange this conversation was? My two-year old, the same one I could have sworn never paid attention in church, is now describing to me how Jesus is coming in the sky. It was almost spooky, as if he knew something I did not know. But I get it. Jesus lives in the sky. Jesus is coming back. What else is in the sky? Planes! What do people wear when they travel through the sky (or space, also in the sky)? Space helmets and space jackets like all good astronauts do. Yes, I get it and it is amazing how little minds piece together bits of information, like puzzle pieces, until it makes sense to them.
Oh, I cannot wait to repeat this story back to him when he is older and better equipped to work the puzzle. He will marvel at his own imagination, just as I am. We are a logical species even when the story seems illogical. Our brains are hard-wired to connect the dots.
Look! A plane! I bet it’s Jesus.
Thank you Jesus, for protecting these precious little minds. I know you appreciate this story as much as I do.
